A few years ago, I was babysitting a little boy, who was about a year and a half. I guess it was about 8pm or so and he was in his
room, sleeping. He was sleeping in a crib for the first time (the crib was actually for his soon-to-be-born baby brother, but since
the family was planning to move, they kept him in the crib temporarily), and he didn't know how to get out of it. Anyway, I was
bored and I tend to snack when I'm like that, so I got up and went to the kitchen and opened the fridge to look inside. Now there
were two entrances to the kitchen. One from the living room (which was blocked by a box or something-- I can't remember) and one from
the hallway. No door on either entrance, and the child's room was right across the hall from the kitchen.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a flash, like something running past me. It definitely spooked me. I went to check on the little
boy after that, to see if maybe, just MAYBE it had been him I had seen. But, it was impossible. He was sound asleep in the crib (that
I mentioned he didn't know how to get out of) and his door was shut. No way could he have gotten out and back in that quickly
without me having seen him, or heard the door.
For the rest of the night, I kept the lights on, watched TV and read (I think I read), while I waited for his mom and stepdad to
come home. I jokingly asked them if their house was haunted, and told them what happened. The mother calmly told me that it was the
ghost of a little boy who had been following her son since they lived in New York. They'd been in several cities/towns between
NY and TN and the boy was always there. Now of course, she could have been just trying to scare me or fool me, but I believe it was
true. Either way, it was still a fascinating story to hear.
